After graduating from City College in 1939, Henry Foner taught Pitman Stenography and Typewriting in the New York City high schools, first as a teacher-in-training at New Utrecht High School and later, as a substitute teacher at Samuel J. Tilden High School, both in Brooklyn. During this period he wrote the song "You're Just My Type," which achieved a fair level of popularity. The reference to the "Royal Machine" is to the Royal typewriter that was manufactured by one of the major companies at the time.
